SASHA members

From The Bedroom’s inception we have always maintained that our offering will and should be “edu-retail” (in other words, educating while shopping), which it certainly has been and is, on a daily basis! The number and range of questions, levels of ignorance and misinformation regarding the female and male anatomy and sex in general, has been quite an eye opener. And being ever so mindful that we have no formal medical training and aren’t qualified sex therapists, we have chosen to align ourselves with others who are, on the basis of referral and shared learning.

We are therefore very proud to announce that we are formally members of The Southern African Sexual Health Association (SASHA) – a non-profit organisation made up of medical professionals aligned to human sexuality, such as gynaecologists, urologists, sexologist, social workers and pharmaceutical representatives with a mission to provide credible information and education on sexual health issues from a multidisciplinary perspective for the general public, the media and healthcare professionals.

To this end we meet once a month for a group study meeting at Ethekwini hospital where an array of relevant topics are discussed, questions asked and issues debated. The Bedroom has even had a turn to enlightened/educate other members on “best selling couples’ toys” (and of course our evening had one of the biggest turnouts!)
After last night’s meeting where Dr. Percy Moodley (gynae at Umhlanga Medical Centre, current Sasha chairperson and regular referrer of his patients to The Bedroom!) gave a very interesting talk regarding androgen (testosterone) therapy, we had a brief chat and what a nice feather in our Bedroom cap when he said, “You are doing such great work”. Thanks Dr Percy and SASHA – long may it last!

To learn more about SASHA, visit their website at www.sexualhealth.co.za. They also run a helpline on 0860 100 262 to be referred to a competent practitioner in your area.
