Recently my 5 year old daughter told me she is not getting married but she does have a boyfriend - shock horror - and then proceeded to tell me that the boy she likes will be the one that plants the seed in her tummy!! What?!!
After heart failure and a few pronounced breaths in and out, I realised that she was just repeating what she had been taught. Children have such inquisitive minds and they want honest answers, enter Babette Cole: Mummy Laid an Egg!
I have four enquiring minds asking me all sorts of questions on a daily basis and obviously sex education comes up. "Mummy where do babies come from?" " But Mum how does the baby get inside your tummy?" Thank goodness someone recommended Babette Cole to me and it has helped in answering those ever present questions. My children (aged 4 - 10 years) love the books because they speak to them and when I expressed concern to a psychologist I saw for a while that maybe my children are too young for books like these. She said I needn't worry as children only take in what they want to hear, and in this day & age children are never too young to know in very basic terms how babies are made.... Shew!
If you have some enquiring minds around you and need the questions answered easily and with no fuss I recommend Babette Cole's books: Mummy Laid an Egg and Hair in Funny Places!
The great thing is you will enjoy them just as much as your children do!!
